South Dakota iHELP® $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP and iPad Drawing:  $1000 scholarships for SD
high school seniors.  Scholarship winners will be chosen at random. To qualify, applicants must
be:  1. A South Dakota resident, 2. A high school senior for the 2011/2012 academic year, 3. Applied to college or university for 2012/2013 academic year, 4. Not on academic probation.  Every scholarship application will be automatically entered into a drawing for a free iPad.  Applications can be found at www.slfc.com/.  Email completed application to loans@slfc.com or mail completed application to: iHELP® Scholarship, Student Loan Finance Corporation, 124 South First Street, Aberdeen, SD 57401-4107.  Deadline is March 31.
 
First Bank & Trust:  $500 scholarship based on essay, activities, character, and academics for a student in a Sioux Falls school.  Applicants need to be: a US citizen and either a First Bank & Trust checking or savings account holder or a son/daughter of a First Bank & Trust checking or savings account holder.  Applications can be obtained in the counselors’ office or at First Bank & Trust locations.  Deadline is March 30.
 
Hatterscheidt (University of Sioux Falls) Scholarship:  $1500 Scholarship for a SD resident graduating from a SD high school in 2012 who has at least a 3.0 grade point average, has been accepted at USF and plans to be a full-time student in the fall of 2012.  The FAFSA form must be filed and show financial need.  Deadline is April 9.
 
Citi Youth Leadership Award:  $1000 to Sioux Empire area seniors involved in at least 100 hours of community service within the past 12 months.  Applications can be obtained in the counselors’ office.  Deadline is March 26.
 
Providence Christian College Reformed Scholarship:  $5000 scholarship toward tuition at Providence Christian College (Pasadena, CA) for students graduating from a Christian Schools International (CSI) School (Sioux Falls Christian graduates qualify).  Apply at www.providencecc.net.
 
Parents of Seniors:  if your son or daughter plans to play sports in college, they MUST register with the appropriate clearinghouse to be sure they’re meeting eligibility.  If they plan to play NAIA, find more information and have them register at www.playnaia.org, and if they plan to play NCAA, go to http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.html.
 
“Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow” Scholarship:  $1,000 scholarships funded by Farmers Union Insurance through South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation for SD high school seniors seeking funds to attend post-secondary education at a SD college, university, or technical school.  Open to Farmers Union Insurance Policyholders, South Dakota Farmers Union Members, Friends of the SDFU Foundation (defined as a contribution of $25 or more during the past year), or a Participant in any
South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) sanctioned activity.  Awards will be based on academic records; school, community and volunteer involvement, financial need, written essay about: “How do you hope to impact a Brighter Tomorrow in South Dakota?”  Applications are available in the counselors’ office.  Deadline is April 15, 2012.  Materials should be returned to Farmers Union Insurance, Attn: Wayne Bartscher, PO Box 1388, Huron, SD 57350.
 
First Premier Bank’s Premier Community Scholarship:  $1000 scholarships for students who are or whose parents are First Premier customers.  Students must plan to attend to attend a SD accredited college, university, technical institute, community or junior college in the fall semester or the current year.  Scholarship criteria include:  leadership and community service (20 points), character (20 points) and scholarship (10 points).  Applications are available in the counselors’ office.  Deadline is March 1.
 
NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) Scholarship:  $1000 for women who will be, or currently are, majoring in a construction related field of study such as engineering, architecture, carpentry, plumbing, drafting, construction management, etc.  Applications are available in the counselors’ office or by contacting Ann at 605.336.1180 or ahill@gagebrothers.com.  Deadline is February 17.
 
 
Dakota Corps Scholarship: Full tuition at participating institutions in South Dakota for students entering high need fields. Must be a SD HS graduate with a minimum of 2.8 GPA, 24 ACT, and agree to stay in SD and work in critical need area for the same number of years as received the scholarship plus one year. Examples of critical need areas include: nursing; HS math or science teacher; K-12 music, special education, or foreign language teacher; applied health care fields. Applications are available at www.state.sd.us/dakotacorps. Deadline is February 1.
 
Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation Scholarships: More than 50 scholarships are now online at www.sfacf.org. Amounts range from $250 to $5000. Several can be renewed for up to three years. MOST deadlines are March 15. Some are March 30 or April 1.
 
Hovik Family Scholarship (SF Area Community Foundation): $1000 for graduating HS seniors who live in Lincoln County and are members of the Lutheran faith with plans to attend accredited four-year colleges or universities that are affiliated with the Lutheran church. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need and have the ability to achieve academic success. Information can be found at www.sfacf.org. Deadline is January 31.
 
 
Southeastern Electric Cooperative, Inc.: $500-1000 scholarships to dependents of a cooperative’s member/consumer. Selection is based on SAT/ACT score, GPA, work experience, participation in school and community activities, a statement by the student explaining his/her education and career goals, and a written recommendation by a third party. Applications are available in the counselors’ office or by request from Brett Snyders at 1.800.333.2859 or brett@southeasternelectric.com. Deadline is February 3.
 
Providence Christian College:  $5000 annual scholarship for students coming from a CSI school (which SFC is), plus $500-2500 Student-Athlete Leadership scholarships available. More information can be found at www.providencecc.net.
 
University of Dayton:  $2500 per year for a student with an innate desire for personal development and who is committed to service within his or her school, church or community. For more information, contact Mrs. Tiefenthaler. Deadline is February 15.
 
GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship: $10,000 renewable scholarships for promising young leaders who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship. For more information, eligibility requirements and an online application, visit www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships. Deadline is February 17.
 
Texas Lutheran University Pacesetter Award for College Excellent: Up to full tuition to Texas Lutheran University for students who meet the following: accepted as TLU student, cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, SAT/ACT composite of 1250/28 or higher, successful participation at Pacesetter’s scholarship event Sunday, February 26, 2012. For more information on the Pacesetter award and event, call 800.771.8521. Students must be accepted to TLU prior by February 3.
 
Calvin College Howard Hughes Medical Institute Scholarship: $2500 to 1st-year students planning to attend Calvin and major in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or math and plan to pursue a career in research or post-secondary education (renewable each year). Requirements include: minimum 3.5 GPA, minimum of 30 on ACT or 1300 SAT, and B average or better in high school science classes. Application can be found at www.calvin.edu/finaid/types/scholarships/hhmis.html. Deadline is January 31.
 
Loban Memorial Scholarship: $1500 scholarship to remember Amanda and Ashley Loban of Brookings, SD whose lives were cut short in a fatal automobile accident May 22, 2006 in Brookings County. A student must be nominated by an adult in a supervisory capacity at work, school, church or extra-curricular activity. If interested in this scholarship, refer to the scholarship information at http://www.aaloban.com/scholarship.htm, request a recommendation from an appropriate adult, and print out or forward information to that individual well in advance of the March 2nd deadline.
 
 
Mitchell Technical Institute Star Scholars: $1000 for 1st semester for students with an ACT score of 24 or higher and high school GPA of 3.0 when accepted to an MTI program. If the student enrolls in one of MTI’s Spotlight Programs the $1,000 can become $2,000. The Star Scholar award will be applied to the first semester’s tuition bill. If the student successfully completes the first year of a Spotlight Program with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, $1,000 will be awarded for the fall semester of the second year also. No application necessary and no specific deadline. ACT scores and transcripts are checked as they come in. Spotlight Programs:

Mitchell Technical Institute Legacy Scholarship:  Up to $1,000 toward education at MTI for students whose parent, step-parent, grandparent or sibling graduated from Mitchell Tech or is currently enrolled at MTI; after verification, the student will be awarded $500 when entering MTI; after completion of the first year of a two-year program with a 2.5 GPA or higher, the award can be renewed for another $500 the second year.  No application necessary and no specific deadline. Information will be indicated and verified as part of the registration process. 
 
Mitchell Technical Institute Ag EDGE Credit:  Mitchell Tech will accept up to 10 credits for state-approved courses students have completed in the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources cluster; they can earn $200 toward spring semester tuition for each secondary credit earned with a “B” or better.  If students complete 10 credits with a “B” or better, they can earn $2,000. No application necessary and no specific deadline. Transcripts are checked as they come in. 
 
SD Engineering Society: $2000 engineering scholarships for 2012 grads planning to attend SD engineering schools. Applicants will be considered based on: national standardized test scores, transcripts, extracurricular activities and answers to questions on the application. Applications are available at www.sdes.org. Deadline is February 1.
 
Augustana Performing and Visual Arts Scholarships:  $1000-5000 per year for students with talent in the areas of vocal or instrumental music, theatre or art. Students will submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher in their area talent. For more information, visit www.augie.edu/arts. Deadline is February 1.
 
East 10th Street Pizza Ranch Scholarship: $250 scholarship for students with 3.0 GPA or above, shows commitment to school and/or community, demonstrates high level of responsibility and work ethic, and is planning to pursue post-secondary education at a college, university or technical institute. Applications are available in the counselors’ office. Deadline is April 16.
 
Buena Vista Founder’s Award: $1000-3000 per year for students interested in attending BV and who visit campus between October 15 and February 15. This scholarship would be in addition to other scholarship/merit awards given. To be considered, students must have applied for admission, have a 2.75 GPA or above, complete an essay during their campus visit and interview with one of the admissions counselors during the campus visit. 
 
South Dakotans for Nebraska: $1000 scholarships for students from the southeastern area of South Dakota to help cover the difference in cost for in-state and out-of-state tuition. Criteria considered include: class scholastic ranking, ACT/SAT test scores, and school, extracurricular, and community activities. Interviews for this scholarship will be conducted beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday, January 28 at the Sioux Falls Construction Company Office at 800 S. 7th Ave. in SF. In order to be considered, applications must be sent by January 25th. Applications are available in the counselors’ office.
 
Abbott & Fenner Scholarship: $1000 awards available to juniors or seniors, as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution; to apply, students will write a 500 to 1000 word essay on the following topic: What have you done outside of the classroom that demonstrates qualities sought after by universities or other educational facilities? Of these, which means the most to you? Submissions must be sent to: scholarships@abbottandfenner.com. Deadline is June 18.
 
University of Sioux Falls Merit Scholarships (students will only be considered for one upon admission; no other application is required):
Salsbury Academic – $56,000 ($14,000/year); ave. ACT of recipients 34; ave. GPA of recipients 3.9
Board of Trustees - $52,000 ($13,000/year); ave. ACT of recipients 30; ave. GPA of recipients 3.8
President’s - $44,000 ($11,000/year); ave. ACT of recipients 27; ave. GPA of recipients 3.7
Provost’s - $36,000 ($9000/year); ave. ACT of recipients 25; ave. GPA of recipients 3.5
Lillibridge Business – ½ tuition, room and board; minimum 25 ACT; top 25% of class
Dakota Corps – Full tuition and fees; minimum 24 ACT; minimum 2.8 GPA
USF Achievement - $28,000 ($7000/year); ave. ACT of recipients 21; ave. GPA of recipients 3.0
USF Recognition - $20,000 ($5000/year); students not meeting above criteria may be considered

US Bank Scholarship: $1000 scholarships for students planning to attend a US Bank Student Loan eligible four-year college or university; information and applications can be found at www.usbank.com/scholarship. Deadline is March 31, 2012.
 
Northern State University Wolfpact Scholarship: 4-year scholarship based on ACT score: 30 or higher - $12,000; 28-29 - $11,000; 24-27; 21-23 - $5000; must be fully accepted by March 1.

Cedarville Music Scholarships – Soli Deo Gloria Awards: Up to $6000 per year; students who wish to audition must fulfill the following requirements prior to the audition: completed junior year of high school; submitted admissions application to Cedarville University; declared music as their major; intend to complete a music degree at Cedarville; GPA of at least 3.0; ACT score of at least 21 or equivalent SAT score; must audition at one of the scheduled events (listed below)

If unable to visit campus during one of the scheduled dates, a valid reason for not being able to audition on the scheduled dates must be submitted. Auditions must be completed by February 25, 2012 to be considered for a performance scholarship. If travel distance makes it impractical to visit campus to perform an audition in person, a video audition may be submitted. Kuyper Scholars Program: Dordt College scholarship for students with a 3.5 GPA or above and at least 28 on ACT; a specific set of courses must be included in the student’s course of study; more information can be found at www.dordt.edu/ksp/. Deadline is February 15.
 
 
 
American Legion Auxiliary Thelma Foster Scholarship: $300 scholarships for junior members of SD American Legion Auxiliary who demonstrate the following traits: character, Americanism, leadership, academics, financial need; information available in the counselors office; deadline is March 1.
 
American Legion Auxiliary Senior Membership Scholarship: $400 for a senior member of the SD American Legion Auxiliary in need of financial assistance; requirements include: two letters of recommendation; a resume of Auxiliary/community/school activities, honors and awards; an essay entitled Why I am a Member of the American Legion Auxiliary; completed application; information available in the counselors office; deadline is March 1.
 
American Legion Auxiliary – Department of SD Scholarship: $500 award to college/university or technical institute; complete application and essay entitled “Why I want to attend College/University or a Technical Institute; information available in the counselors’ office; deadline is March 1.
 
Wayne State College Music Scholarships: Audition dates for scholarships are February 17 and April 13; students will prepare one or two pieces from the standard contest repertoire for instrument or voice; pieces do not need to be memorized; applicants may be asked to sight-read; applications for auditions can be found at www.wsc.edu/schools/ahu/musc/.
 
Lucy Hoskins Ayres Scholarship: $500 scholarship for a high school senior or college student who is the child or grandchild of a veteran of armed conflicts or career military personnel who entered, enlisted, or re-enlisted in the service as a resident of SD. Information is available in the counselors’ office. Deadline is February 1st.

The Elks Foundation awards several scholarships each year: 500 national Most Valuable Student awards ranging from $4000 to $60,000 (deadline December 2), $1000 vocational grants (deadline December 2), Emergency Education Grants for children of deceased or totally disabled Elks (deadline December 31), and $1000 Legacy Awards for children and grandchildren of Elk members in good standing (deadline February 1). More information can be found at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/ourscholarships.cfm.
 
HyVee: Forty $1000 scholarships. Applications and information can be found at www.hy-vee.com. Deadline is February 10.
 
AES Engineers:  The consulting firm of AES Engineers provides $500 scholarships to deserving students.  The firm believes that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining eligibility. Therefore, the award is based on character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted.  To be eligible, students need to answer one of the essay questions found on the following site: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm.  Further information, including previous winners, is available at:  http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Northern Plains Eye Foundation:  $1000 Health-Care Education Scholarships based on overall academic merit, extracurricular and health-care related activities, leadership, teacher recommendations and planner health-care or eye-related study.  Applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.8 and a minimum ACT score of 28.  Applications and further information can be found at www.npef.org/scholarship.asp.  Deadline is March 1.
 
Best Buy Scholarships:  For students in grades 9-12; $1000 awards for students with good grades plus community service or work experience.  Information and application can be found at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com.  Deadline is February 15.
 
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program:  $2000 one-time awards and up to $25,000 scholarships renewable for up to four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program.  Only online applications will be accepted at http://www.buickachievers.com/. To access the application, click the Apply link. Carefully read the scholarship program guidelines and follow the complete list of application procedures.  All applications must be submitted electronically between January 9, 2012 and February 29, 2012.
 
Junior Achievement of South Dakota $500 Leo Crawford Scholarship:  $500 one-time scholarship for students pursuing any major at a post-secondary institution who have participated in Junior Achievement anytime during K-12 education. Applications are available at www.jasd.org.  Applicants will also submit an official copy of their most recent high school transcript and two Letters of Reference (e.g. Teacher, Counselor, Employer, Other).  Completed applications should be sent to and/or for additional information please contact:

ShadowEd is an opportunity for 10th-12th grade students to explore 200 different occupations through hands-on experience.  It is free and available throughout the school year.  Linda Rodman, ShadowEd director, will be at our school to answer questions pertaining to the program each Friday over the lunch hour.  If you are interested in learning more, please see Mr. Benedict.  This is a great opportunity to get some insight into a future occupation!
