How Should We Handle Social Media?

Social media is addicting for teens. Families argue about it daily, causing tension in the home.

A report by Common Sense Media found that 50 percent of teens "feel addicted" to mobile devices, and 59 percent of their parents agree that their kids are addicted.

As a parent, you can have a healthy conversation about social media with your child. These resources can help.

Purposeful Conversation

A recent study found that youth who engaged in “light media use” overall had higher well-being compared to those who used no digital media, but once media use reached one hour or more per day, well-being steadily declined.

Having a conversation with your teen about boundaries for social media can help you both understand your child and help them understand the why behind the limits.
