The SFCHS Concert Choir is an elective course open to all students grade 9-12 and consists of men's and women's voices. The choir provides students with an opportunity to sing, understand, and appreciate music from a wide variety of styles, cultures, and historical periods. Emphasis will be placed on increasing the proficiency of each singer by developing skills in sight reading and enhancing the level of musicianship in rehearsal and performance. Students will study and perform music of various styles, including classical, sacred, spiritual, folk, Broadway, and pop. The Concert Choir performs at several concerts, churches, contests, and community events throughout the year. The choir competes in the Region 2 State large Group Contest in Madison, SD each spring. Solo and ensemble activities are available to interested students. Friends of the Father is an auditioned ensemble selected from Concert Choir members. Robes will be issued to all members for performances; however, each member must provide their own black shoes, socks, and pants to complete the uniform. Participation in musicals, chapels, special assemblies, region solo and ensemble contest are not required by highly recommended. Students may repeat the class for four years for credit. A choir trip is taken on a two year rotationg basis opposite the band.
Credit-1 (This is a two semester class.)
Time Allotment: One period every day.
